A few years back I helped design a system like this. I don't remember the manufacturer though. For the long trunk spacings they had a low gain in and out trunk amp in an LE housing that had to be at least 500' from the input of the next amp. The LE's were a much higher gain than the SA so the LE spacing was usually OK. But having spliced and swept lots of retrofits you will run into other problems - mismatched fittings, Fittings, Housings, Taps, Splitters and even SA Amp set screws not rated for the frequency you are building to.
