Mary - We have a career path which include certain NCTI/SCTE certifications(depending on the position). The tech/installer is not only measured by his/her grades on the written test, but also the daily workmanship on the job, customer interaction, and they cannot be promoted unless these are met. Remember you can point them in the direction to become successful, but it's up to the individual person to put the effort into it. Also if you decide to create a career path like this, keep in mind some techs are great with hands on training vs reading it out of the book.
