Re: Is anyone doing sweep anymore

Yes,

The MSO's have trained some of their tech's to sweep, but they rarely use it.
Now they use the Watchtower crutch.    It's network monitoring software that plots all the addresses, and telemetry from the voip and internet modems, then overlays it on a mapquest like map.    When there is a dip in connectivity it actually puts a wrench on the screen and highlights the problematic devices on the map.   Good tool for quick troubleshooting, but doesn't help you find the source of coax problems.

They days of preventative maintenance, and optimal customer service, and satisfaction are over.   Its all going to reactive maintenance now.
Hardly any of the inhouse techs use their sweep for unity gain.   Now they just use the docsis emulation in their meter to set reverse gain which is totally ignorant.   Sure doesn't help you with flatness in the return.   Aside from that, they mess up the upstream SNR when they start turning up return gain to get modem transmit levels down.    Anymore, they are turning into pseudo-techs.
