In My personal opinion yes it is, but that is another matter.

The reason Dish does not allow it, is PV is the brand of cable that Directv uses and it has the directv name on it. PV does make cable that does not have the Directv logo on it, but that is still not a Dish approved brand of cable.

All it comes down to is that Dish and Direct both know that techs use existing cable if it is there. So let's make rules that only certain parts be used with our systems, or we don't pay. They know that you will use that old cable, so now they have a chance to not pay you for the work you did. It has nothing to do with how good the cable is, or how long it will last. It's all about how much money they can NOT pay.

Certainly old cable can fail, so can new cable. Is old cable more prone to failure, in my personal experience no. Same thing with the commpression vs crimp on fittings.

It's all about the money.
