The "amp" he is using is a 8-way no loss splitter likely a Charter system. It has a NON powered -3.5 port for the EMTA so if the splitter was to loose power the EMTA would still receive signal. The splitter does not "amp" the remaining 7 ports but "balances" the port close to what the level in at the input of the splitter. There is also no loss in TX power....its majik !
.....just wanted to add that im sure by now he has either fixed the problem or has been charged back for the job. =p
