I'm in OR, I'm required by the state Construction Contractors Board to carry a Bond. If the Sub-contractor you were were working for in that state was licensed, they must have a bond. You can file a greivence with the licensing board to collect from there bond. This is alot faster than court and puts a black mark on there record. The contracts between Sub's and Primes usually protect the primes from these suit's. Althougth, with a good lawyer and plenty of money, the Prime's are ultimately responsible.
