Actually it was 600 ohm. but same idea. It was used in the very early years of CATV (before coax) when all we had were antenna towers, and 3 to 6 channels.        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/twin-lead (scroll down to ladder line). High tech. shit back then.


Then when the systems grew they started using coax (before lashers) they put it up with cable rings that were put up by hand, off a ladder truck. Talk about carpel tunnel.
