theres 2 ways to do it:
1 - Inside first like you mentioned, you will need a 2 way power passing splitter at the ODU or a cord long enough to come from their existing splitter, dont power up any IRD's yet...
2 - A 100' extension cord plug in on the outside of the home somewhere and bring the power supply up to the dish with you.
this works pretty good because you can see you have power, and on service or upgrades you power down the dish to connect which puts it back in pointing mode when you connect power with no IRDs attached so you can see the 119 sat....
By the way, the AIM will power the SWiM LNB's by themselves....you can get one at http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?mc=09&p=AIM&d=AIM-Advanced-Installation-Signal-Meter-for-DIRECTV-Satellite-Dishes-(AIM)&c=Signal%20Meters&sku=
Using a regular LNB is a bad idea, no two models are made the same, when you swap to the SWiM you'll probably loose 10% signal, especially on the HD sats (99 and 103) of course you can fix by re peaking afterward....(but then why do it in the first place)
