I remember being in college in the mid seventies (1976) and one of my professors mentioned that with the 2 year degree that his class was the cornerstone of (electronics technology), you could expect to make 30g's a year (he had living examples). I laughed to myself at such a low expected income level. This was in the pre-Jimmy Carter inspired inflation years!
$1.00 in 1976 had the same buying power as $3.89 in 2010.

I do agree that $116,700 would be a good "working man's" wage in today's economy!
Unfortunately the pay in Cable TV and Satellite is way, way off the mark.
Living on 30g's a year would be tough indeed!!!

When I say 50 grand/year, I don't mean before taxes/expenses. In my opinion that isn't making 50 grand a year, it is maybe 30 at that point. Even at 30g's, it may be tight a little bit at times, but still can provide for the family. All it takes is being smart with your money.
