They learned it from Directv. IF a sat tech takes a nice new made-in-China receiver or multiswitch out of the box and connects it there will be a back charge if it fails...for 90 days. IF the customer calls to get the tech's address to send a tip or thank you note..any reason...there could be a back charge in his future.
SO the CATV world may have learned. SNR problems are somewhere in the system but the owners can balance their books on the backs of the techs who build and maintain the system. Brilliant!
