If its noise the mta should be affected with one way voice as well... Had a problem recently with an internet only customer that was having horrible packet loss (intermittently) even after I replaced everything from tap to modem. Our line maint department finally found the noise after about a month. If you think you found the problem drop, fix it, or high pass or disco it until it can be fixed.
