If a copyright on a song runs out you can steal it, and redo it. Happens all the time. If you remember Canned Heat all their songs were redos of old songs. Go to youtube and look up some old timers like John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, ect. You will be surprised how many songs have been re-done.
