There are a couple different versions of the story as to how it came about. This one is the one family and friends tell. The Polish immigrants that had settled in northern Wyoming and southern Montana, in the late 1800's to the early 1900"s, would concoct this up for special occasions during prohibition. You can still find it today at family get togethers, barn dances and round ups, or anyhting else ya wanna call a special occasion. Someone brings a bottle, or two. Not much of a story, but that's the way it was told to me. Just thought I'd share the recipe with ya.
Warnzonka (wern' zen ka)
1 quart shine (can substitute ever clear, if ya don't have any shine)
2 quart water
3 cup sugar
4 stick cinnamon (can substitute red hot candies, 1 bag)
8-12 cloves
melt sugar and cinnamon sticks, add cloves over low heat stirring consistently till it browns (don't scorch it) add the water first and then the shine. Stir consistently till warm (do not let boil), hit it with flame and put lid on right away for 5 seconds. Leaving lid on longer will create a vacuum and ya won't get the lid off. Pour into bottles, there ya go.
