State of the Satellite Industry ReportEvery year SIA and Futron Corporation conduct a leading analysis of the satellite industry’s economic performance.The 2010 State of the Satellite Industry Report, released on June 8, shows a continued growth in global industry revenues for 2009, throughout all four segments:Satellite Services maintained a steady growth of 11 percent, with satellite television leaving the sector with a total of $71.8 billion;Satellite Manufacturing,was the highest growth sector at 29 percent, increasing from $10.5 billion in 2008 to $13.5 billion in 2009 accounting for launches of larger and higher-value new spacecraft;Satellite Launch Industry revenues increased by 18 percent, with United States launch revenues growing from $1.1. billion to $1.9 billion in 2009; and,Satellite Ground Equipment grew by 8 percent, largely due to consumer-oriented products including satellite TV, broadband, mobile satellites, and GPS devices.In addition to revenue and industry trend analysis, the report includes numbers on U.S. Satellite industry employment for 3Q 2009, with losses in all sectors, down by 5.5 percent from 4Q 2008. Fourth quarter employment results for 2009 will be released in August 2010.
