More starting fluid???

We were up at elk camp, and was having trouble getting my old truck started. So I tell a friend of mine to give a couple of short squirts of starting fluid in the air cleaner, while I crank her over. Well,,,,,this friend of mine,,,lets just say, is not a mechanic, or mechanicly inclined. I start cranking her over, and she fires up, then dies. I tell him, lets try it again. I start to crank her over again. Then,,,KABOOM!!!!! Pieces of the air cleaner flying everywhere and the engine compartment on fire, and my buddies hand and arm was on fire too. I jump out of the truck, and tackle him in the snow. After putting the fire out on his arm, we jump up and start throwing snow on the engine. Got the fire put out on the truck, I looked at my buddy, and said "What the Fuck?" "Maybe I sprayed too much" was his reply. Ya think?????
