For what it's worth, look at getting your CDL. The FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) has launched a new initiative called CSA 2010 (Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010) which will be red flagging a lot of bad truck drivers and getting them off the road. This will open up a lot of truck driving jobs. You may be away from home, but this is one of the best jobs I have ever had, it sure beats the uncertainty and dishonesty of the cable industry. Driving isn't for everyone, but it is a viable option. Do a year OTR and then find a gig doing local or regional work. Work conditions are good, pay is decent and you get benefits!

There is a reason we bury cable...cable is dead!
