I did CATV installations for a while. We were issued tee shirts that said INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR. Then they said be in the office by eight to be routed. Then they said you could not leave the area without checking out with the dispatch office.

It was a crock.

Contractors have offices. They bid jobs from many sources. They are free to reject projects that are not profitable to them or for any reason. It goes like that.

If you have to ask about your status are an employee. The entity that is treating you as a contractor for tax and insurance purposes will eventually get dinged for illegal operations.

If you are a contractor you should have a contract that you signed. Did you read it?
