Yeah, problem is cost of doing the work goes up while the payout goes down. I had it figured that payments (at the time) on my new Savana and every other expense came out to a little over $450 a week to roll 5 days a week back when premium gas was under $2, plus 25% of the gross to put away for Uncle Sam.
Now at today's rates working 6 days and more than likely 10-12 hour days (tack on another $50 for the 6th day and another $80 for the higher fuel prices) that $1500 becomes $545 before somebody tries to back charge me for faulty equipment. So at lets say 60 hrs a week that comes out to a little under $9.08 an hour. An illegal day laborer working the same 60 hrs takes home $900 and only has to show up with the clothes on his back and even gets transportation to and from the work site and sometimes lunch for breaking and piling rocks or digging holes.
