I stopped doing DTV installations about 2 years ago, When they started making up their own charge backs and missing equipment that I could prove was on accounts.  Most of them still run you as a 1099 contractor and that means they can rip you off and all u can do is take them to court.  After a while, they will just change their name and your screwed.  DirecTV doesn't care if you don't get paid.  All they want is that customer activated and being billed.  Its not worth it and you said times were tough, well it gets really tough when u spent money on gas and material and you don't get paid for the installation.
