I was told years back that the reason the Onan's or any other gen for that matter were temperamental because you never put a very big load on them and all they do is idle (run rich) while you are up the pole working. He told us to get a coil style space heater and set it on high and leave it that way. This keeps a load on it constantly and still leaves plenty of power to run your boom. We did a tune up on ours and did what he said and it ran like a champ from then on out, just the usual maintenance. Just don't forget the heater is running and throw a cardboard box or a Mcd's bag on top of the heater. The heater is also good to warm up the hydraulic fluid on the cold days. And like Speed said 200,000 boat and RV owners can't be wrong, Onan makes one of the best gen's out there. With all that said I prefer a PTO over anything else but I'm not the one writing the check here. Good luck.
