Sort of....they almost got me with that. Consider that IF there was a significant certification procedure to enter the field of Directv installation those with the certificates would be more valuable to an installation company. The increased money never arrived. The HSPs started charging new techs for the SBCA certificates that were administered in-house by the HSPs.
As the installations got more sophisticated....HD...then HDDVRs....connectivity....internet....MRV... the rest...the money stayed the same. The equipment required more baby sitting. The money still did not rise to compensate for the more complex installation.
Folks left...where to get techs? The exams are fine but without some hands-on practical experience and guided practice the installations still come out goofey. The good techs are going to move to the money. Attempts to keep them where they no longer want to be are just that.
Folks vote with their feet. Directv still misses this one.
