Talking about streching frequency, I remember when cable system maximum frequency was 270 MHz and a company came out with 300 MHz equipment, the only problem with this company equipment, it had in single mode transisitor, when most 270 MHz equipment had pushpull transistors. The saleman of this 300 MHz equipment always brag about the 300 MHz possibility and did not know about 2 & 3 th order distortion. Even if this equipment went to 300 MHz, we could not use mid band channel (14 to 21) because of bad 2nd order.
When you talk about streching above specification (MHz) you must be careful about 3th composite, just adding a couple of channels really move the 3th order composite in the trouble range. Also you need to be careful about VSWR above the MHz specification of the amp. and node.
