Re: To splice or not to splice, that is the question.

By: Mitch New ( (-REDACTED-) )

Darrell,
I have been in cable TV for 22 years, splicing for the last 10. My wife and kids are traveling with me because
the seperation was more than we bargained for. To make the
money your looking at you need experience. You can't just
learn it in a few days or weeks. If your splicing skills
are good that's fine, but retro comes with it's own set of
problems. You have to know how to trouble shoot. That takes time. If your set on this , get a camper. It's a lot
better to have your own place than a motel room, and
is more cost effective. Be careful of who you work for.,
Also be careful of how much retention a co. wants to take.

I am currently sub-contracting,doing residential installs.I want to learn splicing but am being discouraged by present company.I would like to advance my career and earning potential.I'm being told that the travel alone would kill me,did I mention I'm married
w\ three daughters.I currently make $1000 to $1500 a week and I'm usually home by 3:00.I've heard that I could double my income once I learn the routine and become profficient at it. I would appreciate any insight about pursuing splicing. Please don't
spare me the harsh realities nor the glorious bottom line. Thanks in advance.
