John Madden was in Dallas, Texas to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special phone near the Cowboy's bench. He asked Barry Switzer what was it for? And he was told that it was a hotline to God. John asked if he could use it and Barry said "Sure, but it will cost you $50 bucks." John pulled out his wallet and made the call.

The next weekend John Madden was at the mighty Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin when he noticed the same kind of phone by the Packer's bench. He asked Mike Holmgren the same as he had asked Switzer the week before "Mike? Is that a hotline to God?" Mike Holmgren replied "Yes, and you can use it for a quarter." John asked why it was so much cheaper than the Dallas Cowboy's phone, and Mike replied, "Its a local call."
