By Douglas V. Gibbs
In 1952 President Truman established one day a year as a "National Day of Prayer" with a proclamation.
In 1988 President Reagan designated the First Thursday in May of each year as the National Day of Prayer.
In June 2007 Barack Obama declared that the USA "Was no longer a Christian nation." During his presidency he later determined that he would not participate in the National Day of Prayer because government ought not promote religion.
Yet, he had no problem hosting (again) a Ramadan Dinner at the White House, inviting a crowd of his closest, Muslim friends.
The Ramadan Dinners also give him a stage to show his true colors. Last year, during the Ramadan Dinner at the White House, Obama indicated that Islam has always been a part of America. At this year's dinner, he verbalized support for the New York mosque.
So, I suppose the mythical concept of the separation of church and state applies to the National Day of Prayer which encourages all religions to use the day for prayer, but separation of church and state doesn't apply when hosting a bunch of Muslims at the White House to commemorate Ramadan.
And one wonders why now one in five Americans believes Obama is a Muslim.
