On Tuesday, a federal judge struck down President Obama's 2009 executive order expanding embryonic-stem-cell research. Judge Royce Lamberth said the policy violated a Congressional ban on the use of federal money to destroy embryos. It's the latest episode in the continuing and vitriolic battle over the cells, which advocates say hold out the promise of miracle cures but detractors say violate the sanctity of human life by destroying embryos to harvest them.
