I'm no longer there, but I put in 8+ years in cable in the Charlotte area and still talk with many technicians there; it's only getting worse.  If you have a choice I would not come to Charlotte to be a cable tech, you will regret it.  I agree with TheDarkKnight, I would suggest looking at some other low voltage wiring oppurtunities first.  Charlotte is a great city with tons of oppurtunities, don't let Time Warner ruin it for you.
