I did 5 years as an installer then spent 7 years as service tech, system tech,lead tech, cheif, cook, and bottle washer and learned quite a bit. Gotta tell you though, some of the techs I had to work with: looking back now dont impress me. I dont know it all but I think EVERYBODY doing this job should start as an installer, also think everybody should do an install once and awhile to keep up with the new shit.Maybe thats because I always worked in small systems though. Where an installer pulls duty like everybody else, may have to call somebody in a bind but should know the basics, ( how to do a straight splice, reset an IRD etc)
