Re: 'Train of death' drives migrant American dream

I’ve heard anecdotal evidence about crime stats and illegal immigrants: “They are filling our prison system.” I did some research to understand better. My focus was to find data concerning criminal records prior to their latest detention.

We’re told that these folks are just here to passively earn an earn. Many are men, as the story goes, that leave their families behind, dutifully sending back “home” their hard-earned underground economy earnings. I presume the money is gong back in the form of money orders; I’ve certainly seen plenty of Hispanic workers in grocery stores getting money orders for round figures – $100, $300, etc. But, wait, that would be racist of me to assume they were illegal.

I found this report: “ILLEGAL ALIENS – INS Participation in Antigang Task Forces in Los Angeles.” It details a file review of 124 arrests. Some findings:

* The large majority of aliens (106) were in the United States illegally when arrested or detained.
* In reference to gang affiliation, 64 of the aliens belonged to a gang, 21 had a prior association with a gang, and 8 claimed no association to a gang. There was no mention of gang association in the records for 26 of the aliens.
* Also, a large majority of the aliens (103) had a criminal record at the time of the incident. Eighty-five had at least one prior felony conviction, and 49 had more than one prior felony conviction. Sixty-nine had at least one prior misdemeanor conviction.

103 of 124 had priors? And 85 of 103 had a felony – with 49 having multiple felonies? That seems off the bell curve.

I’m trying to track down the study referenced here, but it you grab a phrase from the text, you’ll see that it was widely reported. Rather condemning:

* In the population study of a sample of 55,322 illegal aliens, researchers found that they were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about 8 arrests per illegal alien. Nearly all had more than 1 arrest. Thirty-eight percent (about 21,000) had between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent (about 18,000) had between 6 and 10 arrests, and 26 percent (about 15,000) had 11 or more arrests. Most of the arrests occurred after 1990.
* They were arrested for a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses, averaging about 13 offenses per illegal alien. One arrest incident may include multiple offenses, a fact that explains why there are nearly one and half times more offenses than arrests. Almost all of these illegal aliens were arrested for more than 1 offense. Slightly more than half of the 55,322 illegal aliens had between 2 and 10 offenses.

Ouch. Now, that’s a criminal population, eh?

There’s more reading here and here and here.

It seems, folks, that illegal immigrants are not the “We are humans, too!” lot the Legacy Media portray. Yes, of course, one bad apple does not rot the entire barrel. Just remove the bad one, and move on. OK. But the truth of the matter is that a greatly disproportionate number of apples are bad. And while I refuse to paint with a broad brush, I likewise refuse to ignore facts.
