Re: so BP 'f'd' up......buuuut

oh they needed to pay but it was a shake down and the process was not followed. This should not even be an issue but the government, environmentalists are not allowing BP to do what was needed in the beginning to stop this thing. Just like the Exxon Valdez in Alaska. Blow the damn thing. Well they didn't in Alaska and it caused more damage than it needed to. Yes in a year or 2 you couldn't see it anymore. But you wouldn't have had any problems if it had been blown. All the things BP tried to do was stopped by environmentalists and this government is doing nothing but trying to get paid. Yes they have paid claims but shutting down drilling is losing so many more jobs. And our resident isn't doing a whole but having fun............BP ceo is chastised for yachting but our resident?

The Republican Party says President Obama should quit playing golf while BP's oil well keeps gushing in the Gulf.

"Until this problem is fixed, no more golf outings, no more baseball games, no more Beatle concerts, Mr. President," said Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

Obama, who celebrated a quiet Father's Day at the White House yesterday, spent four hours on the links with Vice President Biden on Saturday.

The same day, BP CEO Tony Hayward went to watch his yacht race in England, prompting general scorn and a crack from the White House chief of staff Rahm Emmanuel: "He's got his life back, as he would say."

Steele sought to equate the two.

"While it is fitting and appropriate to look at the yachting activities of the BP CEO with incredulity, it is equally incredible that President Obama finds himself on yet another golf course as oil continues to spew into the Gulf," he said.

Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse called that "rich."

"Michael Steele and Republicans should apologize to the American people for being lap dogs for big oil, for groveling for forgiveness from BP and for turning their backs on the people of the Gulf coast," Woodhouse said.

Republicans have found some success attacking Obama's response to the disaster. An Associated Press poll last week found 52% of Americans now disapprove of Obama's handling of the spill.

But GOP Rep. Joe Barton's stunning apology to BP last week gave Democrats an opportunity to change the subject - and they were still hammering him yesterday.

"In case you forgot what Republican governance is like, Joe Barton reminded you," Emanuel said, stressing that if the Republicans won control of the House, Barton would be chairman of the committee that oversees energy policy.

President Bush, who was often criticized by liberals for taking frequent vacations to his Texas ranch, said he quit playing golf in 2003 after the Iraq invasion soured and casualties began to stack up.

"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," Bush explained.
