The passages were culled from a letter President Theodore Roosevelt wrote to the president of the American Defense Society on January 3, 1919, three days before he died:
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...
There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
That quote is a great summation of what our US Constitution spells out for immigration policy. It is what every American patriot has been taught, understands, and lives.
My problem that I have with the Latino community is multi-fold:
1 - Coming into America illegally is a CRIME. You want to come to America? Fine. Do it the correct way.
2 - When you get here legally, ASSIMILATE!! Learn our language, customs, and national values.
3 - Latino ex-patriots ... both legal and illegal ... TEACH THE NEW COMERS TO ASSIMILATE!! American's are pissed at you for NOT teaching your immigrating countrymen to become an AMERICAN.
4 - ONE country, ONE flag, ONE language .....Dammit!! Learn it!! Love it!!
5 - Don't like your new home country??? Then get the fuck out. Don't bitch about how we're not learning spanish, or how come everything is written in English. Don't like it? Don't want to learn?? Get the fuck out.
6 - American citizens with latin backgrounds .... Teach these new fuckers to flush the damn toilet paper. Quit throwing it in the trash cans. Fucking disgusting.
My list can go on ... I think you get the point.
