Not just Mexico, I know a few people that have retired in south america as well. And the philipines or thailand; basically places where your money still means something. There are trade offs however , such as quality of healthcare and security concerns. Its getting to the point where you stop working at 70 or 75 then live 5 years and die. I dont have a 401K or retirement benefits so I am trying to put away like $200 a paycheck into a bank account for my own retirement. I feel like I am fighting a losing battle though. Interest rates are a joke now. And something new always seems to come up ex. car breaks down, unexpected bill, refrigrator dies, etc. It really sucks living on top ramen and hotdogs.
