I never said it was new technology that caused the spill. Although, in 1979, I dont think they had the capability to drill in 5000ft of water. So it may not have been the newest technology. But it was likely newer technology than they were using in 1979.
My point is that saftey technology has not advanced. Everything they are using to stop the leak in 2010, all failed in 1979. Nothing has changed except what they call it. The 'top-hat' method they tried in 2010, was called 'the sombrero" in 1979.
