Its safe, I've had to do it several times before. It has something to do with you carrying their equipment or some crap like that. covers if you wreck and destroy 30 DCT's in a firey crash.(lol)
You should only have to add them as an additional person of interest or something like that on your policy. Not sure on a rate hike or not.
