Sounds like a nice place to live. I only had to deal with them when I lived in Florida and then it was only in my front yard, no critters or kids to worry about. The little bastards haven't made it to VA yet, gets too cold in the winter. Here I just have to worry about someone breaking into my place, car, etc. Getting mugged or shot in downtown DC while going out to dinner or a ball game, having some asshole on the highway run me off the road because he's late for something so he's speeding looking at his GPS/TV and talking or texting on his cellphone. Come to think of it maybe putting up with the fire ants wouldn't be all that bad.....lol
As I said before your way is a bit more environmentally friendly.
