Why hold them back?

Start with a company, find them to be no more than dishonest gypsies. Go to work for a competitor, and the old employer steps in the way. What can be done about this stuff? I'm to suffer for a 10+ year old handshake agreement between two losers that have made their money but wont let others? What would you do?
