he didn't have a #1 phillips screwdriver to remove the powerpack, just the yellow dot to open it, chances are the old powerpack is still good
very few really know how to troubleshoot these days, just parts changers.
most likely had snowy pictures in a unit, changed the cover out, went into the unit and found a bad rg-6 connector, clean picture, job done
It's the new breed of tech's, leave it for the next guy to deal with it
