find a construction contract company and get on a line crew as a groundhan (grunt, greenbean, rubber neck, etc.)  watch, listen, and work your tail off and work your way up thru the crew.  as far as splicing i have commented before to find and old school splicer and do the same thing as afore mentioned.   hard work and patience will pay off grasshopper.  thats about the only way to do it unless you have an MSO that has in-house construction crews...
