Oh yeah. I went with HD DVD after the format war was over for several reasons. The first being that HD DVD is the better format. The ONLY reason they lost is because Toshiba didn't have a game console in which to incorporate a HD DVD drive like Sony did with the PS3. Having the PS3 sussidize your losses didn't hurt things either. Toshiba fucked up by being the only manufacturer (besides the combo players) of the players and not paying enough to the studios.
Another reason being I got the top of the line HD DVD player and DVD upconvertor available for pennies on the dollar, brand spanking new with full warranty.
Third, the movies, new and sealed, shipped to my house, usually for under $4, most I have gotten for under $2 each. And there are ALOT of titles that are to this day HD DVD exclusive with no plans for a blu-ray release. I could never have such a vast library of blu-ray at the prices they charge. The players are constantly being changed limiting the discs they will play, the upconversion is horrible also. And now, once again, the players are out dated. All current players need to be swapped out if one wants the new 3D.
Yup, I love my HD DVD which will continue to be useful for years to come. I'll buy a BDP sometime, just won't be right now. I get regular DVD that are near enough to HD when upconverted by my HD DVD player that I am in no rush.
And then there is the CD capability. My HD DVD player is the best CD player I have ever heard.
Nuff said.
