The last time I was in a charter system working (St Louis), I'd get reconnects with no drop, and guess what? .... I'd be like the 4th tech there! Almost everyone else would just blow off all the reconnect jobs if there wasn't a drop. I felt sorry the subs, so I'd actually do the work. So the Charter bean counters laugh their asses off at getting techs to work for free, but they sure take a big hit on the customer service end, when all those people take a day off of work, and the tech blows the job off. Subscribers get pissed! Many switch to satellite or other options available to them. Too often, decision makers don't, or can't fathom all the ramifications of their cost cutting decisions. Those of us with field experience, know how the real world works. Now, it's bad enough when they stopped paying for mid-spans and bump poles, but a whole drop for free?!?!
