OK I just returned to the states from 3 weeks in Japan. Went there to help my Japanese wife pack up the house and move everything back to the USA. After 14 months she finally got her green card. Frankly if I had known it was going to take so long to do it the legal way I would have had her fly to Mexico and wade across like most do. (Just kidding Uncle Sugar) So anyway we got the movers in and everything packed and loaded. Had a few good-by parties with our friends and then spent the last night at her brothers house.
Man there is nothing like a Japanese sayonara party. So much food and drink, every time my glass was 3/4 empty someone filled it, if my plate did not have what they thought was enough food on it someone put more on it. I was not aloud to do anything but eat, drink, talk and laugh. Good time was had by all I think.
Then came the morning and the whole airport thing, Why is it that men always get turned into Sherpa's at the airport? I mean I had everything I would need for the flight home packed in my laptop bag. Anything extra was placed in the checked baggage, this way I am able to breeze through security and throughout the airport with ease. Years of business trips have taught me well how to negotiate airports. Then there is my wife she has her purse, her laptop bag, a small backpack, and a carry-on suitcase. When she is checking in they tell her that she is only allowed her purse, laptop, and her backpack or the suitcase. So because I only have my laptop I get to carry her suitcase ( and so it starts). Somehow before we get to the gate to board the plane I end up carrying both laptops, the suitcase, backpack, three bags of junk that she just had to buy at the duty free shops, and 2 bottles of tea, while she is happily walking ahead with her purse over her shoulder saying we need to hurry or we'll miss our plane. I'm saying yes bawana, yes bawana.
But anyway after 16 hours flight time and two airports we made it home. Now I get to have fun watching her get use to life here in the states. She is already amazed at the size of the supermarkets and today she will get to experience her first Wal- Mart super center. Some how I get the feeling that the airport was just a test run......
