Hope this helps take your mind off it

Don't wanna stop! I have to take the snow plow off the tractor tomorrow, sharpen the blades for the cutting deck (3 blades), install that and get the yard cut so it looks presentable for Easter Sunday. I ordered the parts to finish restoring my '89 Lawnboy for the trimming.

Off topic (and maybe get your mind off the snow), this Lawnboy is a classic. One of the last original Lawnboys made before Toro bought the name and literally destroyed the reputation and started making crap mowers so thier Toro brand would finally take the lead again. Solid cast aluminum deck in perfect condition, original paint. The best engine ever made by Evinrude (the maker of the Lawnboy line) which is the 'F' engine; 2 stroke that I rebuilt 2 summers ago. Starts on the first pull every time. The most powerful 4HP I've ever seen or used. Self propelled by rear wheel drive. This thing will walk right up the side of a cliff, it pulls so strong. The mower is a mulching model, and dude, it doesn't leave anything behind or left over. This mower is quite literally the finest, best built, best performing, best cutting mower I am aware of. It was well used when I bought it off a guy off a tractor/mower forum. It came from Texas to Ohio. Used I bought it for $225 shipped about 4 years ago. I used it one summer in my short lived landscape business and it more than payed for itself.

Now that is the story behind it. The end of the 1st summer of working it, I used the wrong oil for the gas/oil mix by mistake and the motor locked up. Guy I bought it from sent me a complete motor free. It wasn't great but it was free and I was able to finish the summer. The following spring I rebuilt the motor, all new needle bearings, rings, piston, wrist pin and connecting rod. The works. Then the cable for the self propelled broke. The cables aren't available anymore, but a new one will surface from time to time and you gotta be fast to get it. The cheapest I have seen one go for is $90. So I rigged mine so it would work for awhile longer till I found a cable for a reasonable price.

Not too long after, the differential went bad with 20 year grease and a mal-adjusted engagement cable. Not to mention the rear tires were bald, again, not available unless a very high price and used are normally not worth as they are going bald too. So I decided to just use the mower as was last year and it sucked ass. This year I go back to the forum where I bought it off of originally and some guys helped me locate the parts I needed. The rear drive was listed on ebay under the wrong heading, $32 complete, height adjusters, new wheels, everything shipped. A little more searching and I found the engagement cable in a lot of parts. Got the entire lot for $35 shipped and am waiting on delivery now. Got the rear end already.

So this will be as good as new and will last another 30 years. I'm sure you think I'm a numb nuts for going thru all this for a fucking lawn mower. Normally I'd say your right. I could just go buy a mower from Wal Mart for $100 and be done with it. But these Lawnboy mowers are unique, and if you read everything, this one is one of the best made, and is the best I have ever had. So it is worth it to me to restore it, use it, and pass it on for my son to use for a very long fucking time to come.

And I love looking at my babe wife tanning while I'm out there cutting grass. Hope this took your mind off the snow for a bit. It fucking took me long enough to write!
