Alcohol could be the problem - but this is an extreme case.
I've seen just about everything imaginable happen to a fusion machine. Filled to the brim with dirt mud, clay, glass, water....dropped, ran over...you get the picture.
The spot in your pic looks like a chip to tell you the truth. Using canned air on the machine could cause this OR - and this is probably the reason for the damage (if it is on/in lens) - using a standard q-tip you buy from Walmart or any drug store. Their stems are made of a very hard plastic and the cotton swap head is very loosely wrapped (makes em big for cleaning the ears) The end result is the hard plastic scratches the lens
Using anything on the lens other than the Fujikura swap is a no-no. Eventually you end up with a damaged surface. Small micro-scratched that can't be seen by the naked eye all the way up to noticeable chips in the lens.
Either way - if you send your machine anywhere send it to AFL themselves. Don't use a third party vendor. You may borrow my experience if you wish with this. Believe me when I say it's just not worth it.
Good Luck
