Re: Cable TV Is Doomed

You're correct that DWDM been around awhile, but only in larger applications

The FTTH age has brought that expensive application down in size and money. Current applications use one fiber to feed/receive to/from the optical splitter.  1fiber 8 customers, 1fiber- 16 customers or 1 fiber - 32 customers. Just depends on what passing you have off the RT.

Some very cool gear is floating around in these CO's.  DWDM 1550/1310 combiner/decombiner on one port. Confuses you at first when you plug into these things...one leg will pass 1550 but not 1310 and vice versa.

As for wireless - I do see the explosion of cell technology but as Idaho stated...all these wireless providers have to get to a switch and this usually includes a fiber feed. I've done a bit work last year splicing cell sites into catv system up in MN. I'm not sure how cellular technology is going to hold up with quantum speeds (if U believe U have a 3G connection then you'll believe quantum is attainable)

Sure is exciting (again) to be on the cutting edge :-)
