You seem to not understand conservatism and realism. In reality, you can't be a true conservative and be POTUS. Why? Because conservatism limits you on what actions you can or can't take. As POTUS, all options have to be on the table, because the job requires a tremendous amount of flexibility, which is needed to respond to a wide range of challenges.
State and local officials can be true conservatives. Although their jobs are extremely hard, state & local officials still have one card in their decks that you don't have as POTUS. As a mayor, you have the state to throw you a life line. As a governor, you have the Feds to throw you a life line. As POTUS, the buck stops with you.
History may be distorted or exaggerated. But facts are facts. You can keep on waiting for that great conservative presidency. The rest of us will live in the real world, and respond to the real world challenges we face as a nation.
