Though we've yet to find any reference of it in regional news, an internal Comcast newsletter forwarded to Broadband Reports tells the amusing tale of a man and a woman who recently got into hot water with both Comcast and the Houston police. Apparently, the couple had been driving around Houston in a Dodge Durango stealing backup batteries from Comcast power supply enclosure pedestals. When caught, according to the Comcast newsletter, the couple was found with 33 batteries in their vehicle.

Houston Safety Specialist, Gene Sockwell, made special note of the type of vehicle used by a pair of people breaking into a Comcast power supply ped, and recorded the license plate. He quickly relayed his suspicions to the Houston Police Department and gave them a description of what he witnessed. Not long afterwards, a half dozen police officers stopped a vehicle matching Gene’s description and found 33 Comcast batteries in the back of it. The driver and passenger were immediately arrested and escorted downtown.

Of course everybody knows that if you really want to impress your date, you should take her out to steal live copper wiring from utility poles, duh.
