Re: Is anyone still making good money contracting?

Sorry.  Used to believe this but not anymore. There are always going to be the top dogs who do pretty well, because a good contractor is going to take care of his good people.  But like it has been mentioned in this thread, people who know what WTF is going on are not welcome. Find a kid, get them excited, and don't let them know how bad its going to be in 5 years when they realize they really SHOULD have filed income taxes, or really SHOULD have had insurance worth a damn, or really SHOULD have protected their body which is now broken.   I'm not blaming the primes, because they're the same as any other contractor who has one customer- basically just another bitch who gets slapped around when daddy's pissed off.

I wouldn't mind install in house for a decent wage, something to compensate for the dangers of climbing ladders and the responsibility of working in someone's home.  As an alarm tech I sub for $45/hr in NH but I jump to $65/hr if I have to travel more than 1/2hr.   For that kind of wage I don't mind taking the risk of putting holes into people's houses.
