Re: Underpaid lead tech with questions

Nightlull ....

Ok ... For the state of Alabama, the minimum wage is 7.25/hr for 40hrs.  Overtime is at time and a half or 10.86/hr.  This is gross pay unadjusted for taxes.

7.25 x 40hr  = 290.00
10.86 x 13hr = 141.38

So your total (gross) income for ONE WEEK at minimum wage with 13 hours of over-time would be $431.38

With local, state, and various federal taxes ... The amount in tax to be withheld will vary from employee to employee.

If you worked 53 hours per week and made less than $431.38 (gross) ... Then your employer is breaking the Federal Minimum Wage Law.  At a minimum they are violating Social Security reporting laws as the total work credits are not being reported properly if they are not adjusting for the proper overtime pay.

"Piece Rate" work that is being converted to "hourly" each week is a shell game that most contract companies play with thier employees.  It's easy to see what/how they are doing it if YOU keep a daily log of your work hours.  By Law .. they have to pay minimum wage + 1.5x overtime for each pay week.

Do you have to punch a time card each morning and night or is it all hand written on the work orders?  That's another way they can "shorten" the reported hours in a day -vs- total $$ earned to make it look like you made more than minimum wage.

Send me a message if you want help deciphering your paystub to see if your getting hosed.

GL man.
