Watch how those that use the CBO to crticize the Dems, will now say the CBO is not credible. IMO, if you listen to Congressional Republicans, they may feel the stimuulus has created even more than what the CBO says.
Mitt Romney, while speaking at the CPAC convention, stated the stimulus has not created not one net job. Keyword being net. If you lose 8 million jobs and create 2 million, you have not created any net jobs. This was Romney's way of throwing CPAC red meat, without making himself look too stupid.
You will also hear the argument that the stimulus was supposed to keep unemployment under 8%. That prediction was made prior to knowing that job losses, between the time Obama was elected in Nov. and when he actually took office, was much higher than (I think almost double) economists expectations. What you won't hear is, although the percentage was wrong, the actual number of jobs the stimulus was predicted to create or save is on track to be on point. The stimulus was ALWAYS supposed to create 3.5 million jobs by 2011. Until the Dec/Jan 2008 job loss numbers were released, it was thought this amount of job creation would keep unemployment under 8%. So yes, they got the percentage wrong. But they are on the money, with the number actual jobs predicted to be saved or created.
