Defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm.
Now ... There are two common methods to cause defamation: Libel and Slander
Libel is false statements that are put down on paper: such as newspaper or magazine.
Slander is when those false statements are made verbally. Another component to slander is that the comments are made to a person other than the subject. Example: Mary is telling Tom false information about Richard which causes Richard damage.
